MY TAKE: Liquid styls cleaners often contain alcohol which can degrade the stylus bonding agent and, potentially, cause problems elsewhere in the phono cartridge. The guys at Sierra Sound came up with an enzyme-based stylus cleaner that, in their words is "safe for use on any cartridge." This will be our go-to liquid cleaner. - Galen Carol

Sierra Sound is the Distributor of Benz Micro phono cartridges and and ViV Lab Tonearm. Proprietor, Michael Fajen, is a long-time industry expert in the all things analog. This alcohol-free solution is safe to use on any cartridge without the risk of damaging the critical bond between stylus and cantilever. It comes in a convenient 1oz bottle with a built-in brush cap for easy application.

    REVIEWS:

Positive Feedback: "There's no question those delicate cartridge styli require constant cleaning (a procedure done here after each record side). Yet, what to use to clean those delicate styli/cantilevers has recently become a somewhat controversial subject. Liquid cleaner? Onzow? Ultrasonic? Magic Eraser? Whatever. Each method comes with its own pros and cons. Liquid stylus cleaners with a bristle brush were the preferred method of choice here (though have used a variety of methods) because I felt they resulted in the most thorough cleaning. Lately, the recently released Sierra Sound Enzymatic Stylus Cleaner has been seeing a lot more use than the other methods. This new stylus cleaning fluid came to fruition when Sierra Sound owner Michael Fajen, "asked a chemist he knew to formulate an alcohol-free cleaner that would not damage the stylus bonding agent." The end result is this simple, one-step cleaner that should since it doesn't contain any alcohol last for a very long time. Makes a great gift for that audiophile that has everything!"
