NU FORCE: The latest news from NuForce is the introduction of their new v3 iteration of the Reference 9 Mono amplifiers. NuForce’s Jason Lim on the upgrades: “The improvement of V3 is mainly in the design of the control system. V2 was a major "clean up and adjustment" effort from V1. We dared not change the control system in V2 lest we end up with too many uncertainties. V3 has major improvements in the feedback path and overall control to produce a more linear signal across a wider bandwidth (an astonishing 130kHz). Harmonic distortion and noise floor were significantly reduced by approximately 20dB. Note that V3 has lower gain. We think it is better since it can optimize the output of preamp or source. Also you can see that the FR of V3 goes all the way out to 150kHz. In our view, V3 is near perfection (we are perfectionists).”
            A review on Six Moons by Edgar Kramer says it all: "I’ll say it again - get over technology prejudices of class A, class AB, SET and so forth. Get things right and the V3 Reference 9 Special Edition amplifiers will compete with any amplifier you care to mention at any price while running cool and draining very little electricity from your wall socket. SYMPOSIUM: The original purveyors of roller bearing isolation technology, Symposium Acoustics have offered products employing ball bearing isolation methods since 1997. In their design, a concave dish has been mounted in block of special isolating material. A ball bearing (stainless or tungsten) rests in the dish and the component on top of the bearing. Rollerblocks both couple and decouple your equipment from the surface they’re sitting on. They do this by floating the equipment on bearings, thus de-coupling them in the horizontal plane, while still being mechanically coupled in the vertical plane. Symposium feels that the mechanical coupling to the footer improves performance by providing a path for vibration to be transferred out of the equipment and into the footer.
        Two levels of product is offered, the classic Rollerblock Series 2+ at $399 for a set of three, and the economical Rollerblock Jr. at only $219 (includes Tungsten Carbide balls) for a set of three.
        Symposium also makes component platforms. Using constrained layer damping techniques, the hard surface layer effectively transfers vibration away from the component and dissipates it in the absorptive layers inside. REFERENCE 3A: A host of significant upgrades have been introduced, making this wonderful line of speakers even better.

• Internal Wiring:  New CCC (continuous cast pure copper) internal wiring with clear Teflon dielectric. Appropriate thickness of the wire is used for each driver (0.6mm. dia. for tweeter, 0.8mm. for full range and 1.2 mm for bass etc...). 

• Mechanical Grounding of the Drivers: Drains spurious vibration energy from the driver frames.

• Copper Shorting Ring: Improves linearity in driver voice coil magnetic gap. 

• Soft brass screws and phenolic washers used to fasten and isolate drivers: Reduces interactive driver/frame resonances and isolates drivers from the cabinets.

• New larger, height adjustable brass cones and brass floor pads: Better than aluminum alloy or steel isolation cones.

• New five way binding posts with gold plated tellurium copper conductors: Better conductor than the commonly used brass for further improved clarity. 

• New C.C.C. copper bi-wire jumpers: Clearly better than the jumpers previous used.

• Cryogenic treatment: All connectors, internal wiring, and metal driver parts are now cryogenically treated

Recently there have been questions regarding the reliability of posted speed/bandwidth rating of HDMI cables. Wireworld has maintained strict adherence to testing procedures to certify their HDMI cables meet  or exceed their published spec. We received the following information from Wireworld cautioning purchasers about the problem.

HDMI Standards Organization issue word of caution

In recent months we have seen improbable and dramatic claims being made by various manufacturers and distributors of HDMI cables both from UK and overseas.
         The claims were all vague and were not supported by any substantiated measurements of specific models or their length.
        At WireWorld we elected instead to provide full disclosure of our testing results, and in addition clearly marked each cable variant for its performance capabilities since 2005.
        We therefore welcome the latest clarifications that were posted by HDMI international licensing body last week.
        Extracts from: What do Speed Ratings on HDMI Cables Measure? News from the HDMI Standards Organization, March ‘08
         “A Standard HDMI cable is tested to support a throughput of 2.23 Gbps, and can reliably transmit an     uncompressed 1080i signal at 60Hz.”
         “A High Speed HDMI cable, by contrast, has been tested to the full 10.2 Gbps bandwidth of the most current HDMI standard, and is capable of transmitting uncompressed 1080p and beyond.”
          “One word of caution. Do check to make sure that the speed rating indicated on the package applies to the actual length of the cable. Cable performance deteriorates over length, so any speed rating should apply to the actual length of the cable in the package.”

         We sincerely hope that in future both the press and retailers will take a more cautious approach towards performance claims made by manufacturers of HDMI cables and ask factual information rather than relying on creative marketing material.
